Vinho Verde:
Vinho Verde is the world’s largest demarcated wine region, covering some 7,000 square kilometres in the Minho, Douro and Beira Litoral provinces. It has a strong geographic, climatic and cultural identity, that’s why Vinho Verde is regarded as Portugal’s most original wine.
Wet, fertile, granitic and with mild temperatures influenced by Atlantic winds, the region seems to be painted with all the greens in the palette.
Casa do Valle is situated in Basto Sub-region, in the East of the Vinho Verde Region, which is warmer and less humid than the rest of Vinho Verde’s area - the Estate is 75 km away from the Ocean.
The Estate, surrounded by mountains ranges crossed by the river Tâmega -the Quinta is in both banks of this important River - has an unusual variety of soil types – granite and schist - which provides conditions to have a more complex, moderate acidity and fresher wines.
Wine production at Casa do Valle dates back to the 18th century although estate bottling started in 1989 with a white blend of Azal and Arinto and the red wine with Vinhao and Rabo de Ovelha. In 1992 we bottled the first Rosé wine in the Vinho Verde Region with the geographical designation of «Vinho Regional Minho». Since 1999, we have been bottling varietal wines like Azal, Arinto, Loureiro and Vinhao.
In 2009, we launch the Casa do Valle Grande Escolha to celebrate the 20 years of the first bottling under the our own brand. This wine is the result of a careful
selection of the best grapes from our vineyards of Alvarinho, Arinto and Loureiro varieties.
Casa do Valle began exporting wines in the early 90’s. The first destination was France but, nowadays, we export to Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, amongst others.
The superior quality of the CASA DO VALLE wine is the result of, not only the favourable conditions which the noble regional grape varieties encounter on this estate, but also of the passionate commitment of the Sousa Botelho family to winemaking.
